Mother Earth Sound System is pleased to announce our new monthly, Mixing Pictures! We’re trying something a little different with this one: DJs pick their favorite films to screen, then use the film audio along with their own music selections to create a whole new soundtrack.
We’re kicking off on Saturday, August 23, with two visual masterpieces that have no dialogue: Koyaanisqatsi (1982), directed by Godfrey Reggio, soundtrack by Philip Glass; and Baraka (1992), directed by Ron Fricke (cinematographer of Koyaanisqatsi).
In the future, our DJs and guest artists will be mixing with all sorts of genres and styles: science fiction, fantasy, anime, horror, martial arts, B-movies, surrealism, experimental films, and more.
Join us at the Karma House kava bar in Lakewood, an inclusive, alcohol-free, community-based non-profit space that hosts many diverse events. We hope to build this night into a regular monthly feature, so please come out, watch a couple films, and relax with some kava, kratom, chai, tea, seltzer, and many other beverages.
